Together is the country’s oldest community mental health charity. Since 1879, we have believed that people with mental health issues have the right and the abilities to lead independent, fulfilling lives as part of their communities. We offer a wide variety of support services to help people deal with the personal and practical impacts of mental health issues, from one-to-one support in the community to supported accommodation, advocacy and working with the criminal justice system.
We currently work with around 5,000 adults every month via 80 projects throughout England, but we aspire to reach many more. We have made significant progress but there are still plenty of challenges ahead. We are excited about our future – we have recently moved into a new head office, have recently appointed a new CEO, are currently developing a new five-year strategy and are strengthening our overall approach to governance. Our aspiration is to go from good to great, to reach out to more service users, to grow our accommodation services, increase our income via new and creative partnerships, and communicate more effectively with all our stakeholders
To help us achieve our ambitions we are now seeking to recruit a high calibre Chair of Audit and three other Trustees to join our board. As Chair of Audit, working closely with the Director of Finance and Resources, you will ensure the board has oversight of the governance, risk and assurance aspects of the charity’s strategic plan, ensuring that the key internal control and risk management framework remains sound.
Trustees play a crucial governance role and we would like to appoint three people with a proven record of significant achievement in their own field and experience of operating at board level. A commitment to our vision, values and mission is a must. Experience in one of the following areas is desirable but not essential; Health & Social Care, Legal, Housing and Estates Management and Commercial. In line with our commitment to service user involvement, we welcome applications from individuals with lived experience of mental health issues.
These are exciting roles at a time of significant opportunities that will give challenge and reward in equal measure. We are particularly keen to continue to diversify our board and if you feel you have the enthusiasm, insight and commitment to help us increase our reach and impact, we would like to hear from you.
